After all the hubbub that Virtua Tennis will be 1080p (big woop considering i have never seen ANY 1080p screens in real life.) guess what, Just like Tony Hawk’s new game the PS3 version of Virtua Tennis has completely lost Multiplayer as well. What’s really bad is that it’s as if someones trying to rub salt in a new wound because guess what, from what we’ve heard Xbox Live support is good to go :)
I mean their were already doubts concerning the ps3 being able to compete against the already successful Xbox Live… but now we’ve got PS3 games loosing online support completely. On top of just loosing online support in a few games, if you recall we had a few developers really bashing sony on kotaku, about sony’s online strategy or shall i say lack of it. You know the whole “it’s up to the developers to figure out how they want to do the multiplayer”, now it seems their complaining again, while sitting around watching games loose the online support.
Things are not looking good for people who are fans of online play and are thinking of picking up Sony’s new system. First it was announced that Tony Hawk’s Project 8 would ship without online play for the PS3, and now Virtua Tennis 3 is following suit by shipping on the PS3 sans online play, too. Ick. Online play with those two titles is a big selling point; this is giving the 360 a large advantage for these two ports. What gives?
Sega isn’t talking specifics for now. I remember playing a very early build of Virtua Tennis 3 at E3, and when I asked the rep what it was like to work with Sony, he gave me a constipated, pained look before laughing and saying no comment. It was one of the most telling “no comments” I’ve ever received.
Seems to be some pretty bad news for the Sony camp and Sony fans in that case if you ask me. Especially that last quoted line.
