Well as most of you know by now Google started offering street level views of the streets that Google maps covers. Besides the obvious and very abundant privacy complaints that sprang up after the launch… that’s all besides the point. The big news yesterday was a supposed “insiders” picture of the van that was used to do the street level photography. Sorry guys apparently whoever “leaked” that image was completely hands down WRONG or somehow it went black and started taking Tenuate and lost A LOT of weight LOL. Well Let me introduce you to the real “Immersive Media”, the company that specializes in the 360-degree videos, that Google is using to fill out their coverage in cities like New York.
As you can see, Immersive Media mounts an 11 camera contraption on top of their vehicles in order to capture the complete 360 degree view that is used in Google maps all at once. Ok but the rumor however is that the original shot of the van wasn’t completely untrue. The van in the original picture was a Google van and it was used for street level pictures. But it’s not like their going to roll a fleet of those out across America. No that van was used for the pilot in San Francisco and was done by Google themselves. That’s also why the San Francisco shots are actually of a slightly higher quality (I bet SF privacy advocates just love that LOL)
