Well it looks like those boys over at Adobe haven’t been sitting on their hands with Flash. As a new version of flash ships it brings with it some MASSIVE improvements. Flash Video Player 9 will be adding support for the new H.264 codec, which oddly enough makes me wonder if Apple knew something or if youtube and Apple somehow managed to get Adobe to add H264 support, considering youtube for the iPhone has YouTube converting all their video’s over to the h264 format.
FLV9 will also be brining the AAC audio compression allowing for more efficient encoding and streaming of audio. But what’s even more impressive is the fact that they have announced that Flash 9 will bring with it hardware acceleration for all types of full screen videos. This means in the next few months, the big sites like myspace, youtube, and pretty much every flash video site, should start streaming and playing back a good deal better. By allowing the videos to be processed by your fancy graphics card rather than CPU, and since the AAC codec is so much more efficient than the current codec being used, it will also free up processing power to better handle that video. So even if you don’t have a sexy video card this new version of flash should allow for better streaming.
But as if that wasn’t enough, Adobe has also announced that they have added improved support for multi core processors as well, so that those bad boys with geforce 8800’s and Intel QX6600 quad cores, can have the ultimate video streaming experience without the slightest hiccup ever again :)
For those of you that can’t wait Adobe has released a beta version of Flash 9 code named Moviestar onto their labs site.
